【 高校1年生 アメリカフィールドワーク 4日目 】 / America Field Work [4th Day]
平成31年3月8日(木)、アメリカフィールドワーク4日目の様子です。
今日は午前中にホストシスターと一緒に授業を受け、午後は高齢者などが集まるコミュニティー施設を訪問しました。
午後の活動では、渡米前に日本の伝統的な遊び(あやとり、けん玉など)を準備し、それを通じてコミュニティーの方々との交流活動を行いました。
研修4日目にして英語で話すことに慣れつつあるものの、物事を説明するのが難しい時には、ジェスチャーを交えて一生懸命にコミュニケーションを取り、何とか相手に理解してもらおうとする姿勢が見られました。コミュニティーにはスペイン語話者の方々もおり、英語でのコミュニケーションが難しいこともありました。しかし、生徒たちは挫けず、交流を深めようと積極的に取り組む姿が見られました。
研修初日は多くの生徒が不安そうな表情を見せていましたが、現在は非常に活動的で前向きに何にでも取り組めているようです。明日は現地の幼稚園に訪問し、交流活動を行います。様々なプログラムを体験する中で、多様な価値観や文化に触れ、成長して欲しいと願っています。
Today the students had classes with their host sisters, and in the afternoon they visited a community center for the elderly. The students showed some traditional Japanese games which they had prepared in Japan, such as cat’s cradle (ayatori) and cup-and-ball (kendama).
Now, the students seem more confident in speaking English. When speaking is difficult, they use gestures and try their best to communicate with their partner. Some people in the community center were Spanish speakers, which made communication even harder sometimes. However, the students didn’t give up and kept deepening their cultural exchange.
Although many students looked nervous in the first day of training, by now they are positively involved in everything they do. Tomorrow, they will visit a kindergarten to have exchange activities with young children. This immersion in cultural experiences and different values will hopefully help students grow.
